I was elected Chair of the Irish Association for American Studies in 2017. The IAAS, founded in 1970, is an all-island organisation with approximately 80 members that promotes the culture as well as the study of the United States and the Americas in Ireland. It is a constituent member of the European Association for American Studies (EAAS). Through a range of bursary schemes, the organisation helps fund the work of postgraduate and early career scholars in the diverse fields of American Studies, including history, film, literature, music, art, or politics. It hosts an annual conference, an annual postgraduate symposium, and the W. A. Emmerson Annual Lecture, and it awards the Peggy O'Brien Book Prize and the WTM Riches Essay Prize. As Chair of the 10-person committee from 2017 to 2019, I oversaw the 2017 and 2018 Annual Postgraduate Symposiums in TCD, the 2018 and 2019 Emmerson Annual Lectures in UL and Dundalk Institute of Technology, respectively, and the 2018 and 2019 Annual Conferences in UCD and UCC.
