Charlie Doherty was the second eldest of the famous Doherty family whose music and stories helped to define the Donegal voice in traditional music. Born in the 19th century, there are no recordings of his music but his life can be traced through recordings of music and interviews from his family members and descendants. This includes a series of adventures through the trenches of WW1, the back-alleys of the prohibition era, a spell in Canada and eventually to Belfast where he met an untimely end aged only 53. Through performance, rare recordings and conversation, we trace Charlie’s life and his musical legacy.
