Description

Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s famous painting, the “Viva la Vida Festival” was an ode to life and joy despite the struggles we all face as humans. The festival showcased Latin American culture and invited people of all backgrounds and ages to experience a taste of Latin American identity and worldview through a positive array of activities. The aim of the festival was to showcase Latin American culture through a series of workshops that will educate the audience while engaging them in fun and playful activities. This two-day festival took place October 25–26th and was the first (possibly only?) Latin American Festival to be held in Limerick City. The festival connected artists from all over the world to produce opportunities for multicultural exchange through educational events, community workshops, and live music and dance performances. The festival included two concerts:

Paddys de las Pampas, a fusion performance of Irish and Latin American music featuring The Irish World Academy of Music & Dance alumni Paddy Mulcahy and Lenka Fairy.

¡Fandango!, featuring Baroque, Classical, and traditional music and dance from Spain, Portugal, and Mexico, including a fusion of Hispanic music and Irish dance. Performers include Yonit Kosovske (harpsichord and artistic director of ¡Fandango!), Wolodymyr Smishkewych (voice & percussion), Yovanna Torres Blanco (dance), and guest artist traveling from New York, Carlos Cuestas (historical guitar).

Co-produced by Yovanna Torres Blanco, Noelle Araujo Carvalhal, Yonit Kosovske, Wolodymyr Smishkewych, and Now and Then Media, Ltd.
