Digital art, computer art, new media art, and the plethora of names under which we describe those art practices that crucially rely on digital technologies for their production and presentation, claim to be in a historical continuum with their "non-digital" counterparts. Is it so, though? To what extent such continuity, or amicably relationship of disruption/innovation, can be defended? As the question about the digital is regaining its centre stage in philosophical discourse, a number of issues resurfaces for both art theorists and practitioners. Not least the one: who is I that act, perform and create in this digital world?
