Biography

Amol is a PhD student at the multiphase Reactor and INtensification Group (mRING) at the University of Limerick. He has completed his Masters (M Tech) from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India in 2009, under the guidance of Prof. R P Chhabra. Also, he has completed his Bachelors (B Tech) in Chemical Engineering from Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India in 2006.

After completing Masters, Amol worked on industry specific problems while working as a CFD consultant, first for Tridiagonal Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (Aug 2009 – Feb 2012) and then for ESI Group (Feb 2012 – Aug 2014). Prior to joining UL (University of Limerick), he was working as a Senior CAE Specialist for the Dishwasher product category at the Global Technology and Engineering Center (GTEC), Pune office of Whirlpool of India (Sep 2014 – Jan 2022). At Whirlpool, Amol was involved in the use of CFD as a tool for product development, design improvement, and design optimization.

Amol’s current research focuses on understanding droplet breakage in Hydrodynamic Cavitation (HC) devices through a combination of Computational and Experimental techniques. Computational models for simulating complex flows with phase change (cavitation) coupled with population balance models for simulating droplet breakage are validated against experimental data. The validated models are used to optimize the designs of HC devices for producing emulsions with desired quality attributes.

Key Competencies: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Multiphase Flows, Emulsions, Heat Transfer, Turbulence, Mixing
