Dr. Andrey Bezrukov is a Principal Investigator at the Department of Chemical Sciences / Bernal Institute, where he focuses on developing material solutions for industrial challenges, including carbon capture technologies. 

Andrey holds a Diploma in Chemistry from the Novosibirsk State University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Bergen. In 2018, Andrey joined the Crystal Engineering Research Group led by Prof. Michael Zaworotko, contributing to large-scale collaborative and industry-linked research programmes in advanced porous materials. 

At the Crystal Engineering Research Group, Andrey has led contract research and worked closely with startups and industrial partners, including Molecule RnD Ltd (acquired by Genesis Systems, US) and carbon capture venture in Australia. His work has been focused on translating materials research into deployable technologies, resulting in multiple patent applications and a granted patent (EP4110518B). 

In 2024, Andrey secured SFI Industry RD&I funding to lead the ChemiSorb project in partnership with NEG8 Carbon, where Andrey, as a Senior Sorbent Development Chemist, led the development of sorbent materials portfolio for Direct Air Capture (DAC). 

In 2026, Andrey was awarded an SFI-IRC Pathway Project (ROBOSORB), focused on integrating high-throughput experimentation and data-driven methods to accelerate the discovery of next-generation carbon capture materials.
