Biography

Ann-Marie is an Associate Professor in Nursing (Mental Health) at the University of Limerick. She holds a First Class BSc. (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing from the Institute of Technology, Tralee and an MSc. in Perinatal Mental Health from the University of Limerick. Ann-Marie successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Prison Mental Health Services: an exploration of the perspectives of women in prison and prison personnel through an intitutional ethnographic lens", in March 2024. 
 
Ann-Marie has considerable experience in mental health nursing practice. She worked in a number of clinical settings including; acute in-patient care, rehabilitation, perinatal mental health and community-based psychosocial interventions. 
 
Ann-Marie's passions are teaching and research. Ann-Marie teaches across disciplines with a focus on mental health, nursing practice and research. Ann-Marie provides research supervision to both undergraduate and postgraduate students at University of Limerick. In 2023, Ann-Marie was conferred with a Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship from the University of Limerick. 
 
Ann-Marie's own research focuses on the use of qualitative methodologies with particular interest in women's mental health, perinatal mental health and nurse education and research. 
 
Ann-Marie leads the Mental Health Special Interest Group of the Irish Paramedicine Education and Research Network (IPERN) and is a serving member of the Inter-Professional Education Working Group affiliated with the Health Sciences Academy and the Healthy UL Addictive Behaviours sub-group. Ann-Marie is also chair of the school's mental health research cluster.
