Biography

Dr Grealish is an associate professor in mental health at the University of Limerick and a visiting senior lecturer at King s College London. She is a qualified general and mental health nurse, cognitive behaviour therapist (CBT), and Interpersonal Therapist practitioner (IPT) with a specialism in young people s mental health, and perinatal mental health. In 2014, Annmarie completed her PhD in Psychology at the Division of Psychology and Mental Health, University of Manchester. She developed and validated the Youth Empowerment Scale (YES) measuring empowerment for young people with psychosis. Annmarie has extensive experience of clinical practice, research and education in mental health. She worked in a number of clinical settings, including; acute in-patient care, primary and secondary care, and specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in NHS Lothian. Annmarie also undertook research funded by the Scottish Executive evaluating and implementing Telehealth in CAMHS whilst working as a CBT and IPT practitioner. She held lectureships at the University of Salford, and King s College London before commencing at University of Limerick in Jan 2019. Annmarie teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including the MSc in Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care  and MSc in Perinatal Mental Health. Annmarie has received research funding from a range of bodies, both nationally and internationally, including National Institute for Health Research England (Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme, 2024-28), Irish Research Council (Postgraduate Scholarship Award, 2023-24), Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT, 2019-22 and 2024-28), National Institute for Health Research England (Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme, 2022-23), The Nurture Network (eNurture, 2021-23), Health Service Executive (HSE Improvement Innovation Initiatives, 2019-21), Scottish Executive (Innovation Fund for Children s Services). Annmarie is currently the Associate Editor for the Journal of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, the Review Editor for Frontiers in Digital Health, and Inaugural Editorial of the Journal of American Nurses Association-New York (JANANY).

Research Interests

Annmaries research focuses on trauma, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), psychological therapies (CBT, TF-CBT, IPT), perinatal mental health, young people's mental health, interventional evaluations and clinical trials in remotely delivered interventions. She has a leading role in the ongoing trials at King's College London looking at PTSD in veterans, and COVID-related PTSD in Health and Social Care workforce. Annmarie has secured research funding as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator from a range of bodies, both nationally and internationally, including National Institute for Health Research England (Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme, 2024-28), Irish Research Council (Postgraduate Scholarship Award, 2023-24), Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT, 2019-22 and 2024-28), National Institute for Health Research England (Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme, 2022-23), The Nurture Network (eNurture, 2021-23), Health Service Executive (HSE Improvement Innovation Initiatives, 2019-21), Scottish Executive (Innovation Fund for Childrens Services). Annmarie continues to provide supervision and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (CAMHS) in the UK and Ireland. She is currently supervising PhD students at University of Limerick, King's College London, and University of Galway in areas such as young people's mental health, psychological interventions, psychological trauma, post-traumatic stress disorders, and perinatal mental health using co-design methodologies.

Teaching Interests

In my current role, I teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and was previously the programme director for the MSc in Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care and MSc in Perinatal Mental Health. I am the module co-ordinator for the Undergraduate NM4283 and Postgraduate NS6101, NS6101 and NS6042 modules. I teach the Theory and Practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy; Psychosocial Interventions; Developmental Trauma, Mental Health and Wellbeing of Children and Young People, Therapeutic Interventions with Children, Young People and Families; and Perinatal Mental Health.
