Environmental Science; Environmental Management; Simulation Modelling; Sustainability; Environmental Management Systems;
I lecture five full modules, I am Coordinator for another two modules and contribute 25% of lectures to a further module. Of these, two are taught MSc modules, the rest are at undergraduate level. I have authored two of the four UL modules on the joint UL/NUIG taught MSc in Sustainable Resource Management and I have supported and effectively taught international students in this programme as well as at undergraduate level. I work on Research Projects and teach Project Management skills to these MSc students over the summer months (May-August).
I read published research in education for technical subjects, and undertake experimentation to continually enhance teaching effectiveness. In response to feedback from students, I adopt a wide spectrum of teaching and assessment methods (reports, presentations, posters, blogs, resource logs, documentaries, TED talks, etc) in the context of changes in student prior-knowledge, learning strategies and information sources, technologies, student numbers, and mixed group classes.
As an environmental scientist, I am strongly motivated to equip my students to find worthwhile jobs and to undertake further study. My research and partnership with industry and government departments ensure that my teaching is cutting edge within a rapidly developing field.
