Biography

I have enjoyed studying various soil systems from the Vertisols of Northeast Texas to the fertile Mollisols of Eastern Oregon. My studies and passion for soil science led me to pursue a Masters of Agricultural Innovation Support at University College Dublin where I investigated the effect of cadmium in the soils of potato growers in three counties of Northeast Ireland. I gained a love for Irish soils along with the Irish culture, and accepted a position as a Research Assistant for the Biological Sciences Department at the University of Limerick. It is here where I turned my focus to Histosol soils with a forestry land use type, specifically profiles with a marl or other calcareous layer beneath the organic horizon. Gaining experience and knowledge about forests on peatlands has now led me to my latest journey as a PhD student at University of Limerick where I will be investigating carbon stock dynamics on both organic and mineral soil types across Ireland.
