Bróna's research interests span corpus-based discourse analysis, spoken discourse across (different contexts including academic settings), English language teaching and learning, and sociolinguistics. Her work, to-date, has largely involved looking at smaller, specialised sociolinguistic-oriented corpora to explore more functionally-motivated linguistic variation across social groups.
Her more recent work explores the role of corpus linguistics in the exploration of academic focus group data and looks, in particular, at the discourse of doctoral mindsets amongst students on an international doctoral programme.
