Biography

I am Associate Professor in medieval and early modern literature, and was head of English, 2021-2024. I have also been Erasmus Coordinator for English (2015-2019); Final Year Project Coordinator, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (2019-2021); and editor-in-chief of The Ogham Stone, UL's literary journal: https://theoghamstoneul.com (2017-2021).

Previously I held two postdoctoral fellowships and have taught at Queen Mary, University of London, the University of Bristol, and University College Cork.

Recent publications include Recipes and Book Culture in England, 1350-1600 (Liverpool University Press), co-edited with Hannah Ryley (University of Oxford); and a special issue of the journal Textual Practice on the medieval canon (with Prof Mary C. Flannery, University of Bern). I am currently compiling a volume of the Index of Middle English Prose for the Wellcome Library, London, and completing a study of the Caxton fragments held in the Bolton Collection, UL.

I supervise or co-supervise seven doctoral students in AHSS and was mentor to MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow Dr James Sargan in 2022-23.

I also write creatively and have published fiction in Silver Apples, Transa and Ropes, and was a Munster Literature Centre fiction mentee in 2023.

Activities: Executive Committee of the Centre for Early Modern Studies, Limerick; Secretary, Early Book Society. Member of review board, Aigne (UCC's Graduate Journal). Reader for The Mediaeval JournalViator. With Dr Emer Purcell I am also reviews editor of Oenach, the journal of the Forum for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Ireland
