Research Interests

Catherine’s research interests examines the area of Child and Family Law with a focus on Children's Rights within the Irish Constitution, Bunreacht Na hÉireann (1937) and the changes brought about since the Thirty-First Amendment of the Constitution with the insertion of Article 42A relating to children’s rights and the duty of the state.  Catherine has a keen interest in the area of Adoption Law and the changes brought about since the introduction of The Adoption (Amendment) Act 2017, with a focus on the best interest of the child and the considerations of the court to the birth parents, the child and the relevant non-guardians.

Catherine also has a keen interest in the area of Tort Law with a particular focus on the intention to achieve equality and consistency in personal injury actions following the introduction of the Personal Injury Guidelines. 

Teaching Interests

Catherine has a keen interest in teaching, whilst maintaining a professional legal practice at the Law Library as a Barrister. Catherine is a Teaching Assistant in the School of Law University Limerick and has taught Principles of Law; Administrative Law; Law of Evidence; Child and Family Law and Law & Ethics. Catherine graduated with a First Class Honours LLM General from the University of Limerick in 2022 having practiced as a Barrister since 2005. Catherine tutors with the Honorable Society of King's Inns, tutoring on the Barrister at Law degree programme focusing on the area of Civil Practice and Procedure. She is tutor and internal examiner with the Law Society of Ireland, and LLM dissertation supervisor dating back 10 years to date. 

Biography

Catherine Mc Loone LLB LLM BL is a Teaching Assistant at the School of Law, University of Limerick, Ireland. Catherine practises as a Barrister specialising in the areas of Child and Family Law and Adoption Law. Catherine has a general legal practice, with a focus also on the area of Tort Law (Personal Injury Litigation) and Probate Law. She has published widely in highly respected journals. Catherines publications include:

Catherine has presented papers at law conferences to include The Family Lawyers Association AGM at the RDS in 2006 and 2023. Catherine held the position of case and commentary writer for the Family Law Journal from 2006 – 2010.
