Clare graduated from the University of Edinburgh (BSc Biomedical Sciences, Hons Anatomical Science) in 2002 and the University of Dundee (MBChB) in 2006. She finished her UK Foundation Programme in Scotland in 2008 and worked for a year as an NCHD in Dublin. Having completed core specialty training in Paediatrics (Yorkshire, UK) and gained a Diploma in Child Health (RCPCH, 2013), she moved into a career in Medical Education in 2014, teaching clinical skills at the University of Leeds. Following relocation to Ireland in 2016, she worked as both a Clinical Skills and PBL tutor, gaining a broad range of teaching experience and completing her MSc in Health Professions Education at the University of Limerick, School of Medicine. In 2020, Clare was the recipient of the Bill Shannon Excellence in Medical Education Award.
Clare’s Associate Professor in Medical Education (International) role, established in 2023, primarily supports residency / early career preparation, and clinical electives, including an extensive programme of talks and 1:1 meetings for all Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) international students. Actively involved in research, tutor training, assessment and curriculum development, she also facilitates PBL groups in the pre-clinical phase of the BMBS course as a Tutor and Academic Advisor. Clare works closely with an International administrative team and senior faculty to ensure appropriate recruitment, structures and supports across all School of Medicine graduate-entry and postgraduate programmes.
An advocate for EDI and sustainable development, Clare is focusing on the integration of cultural competencies into curricula and has forged pathways to gain holistic medical experience for her students (e.g. clinical elective partnerships with the Independent First Nations Alliance, Northern Ontario and UNESCO Story Circle events on campus).
Clare is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority UK (FHEA), and an active member of both the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) and the Irish Network of Healthcare Educators (INHED).
