Biography
Dr Dishant Mewada works in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at the University of Limerick, where he is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher on the XBat+ project. He received his M.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from the University of Limerick in 2021 and completed his Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering in 2025.
His research focuses on artificial intelligence, computer vision, and machine learning for real-world sustainability applications. His work has explored automated waste classification, contamination detection in recycling streams, and the use of AI to support more efficient and safer recycling processes. As part of the XBat+ project, he is working on advanced robotic and AI-based solutions for battery detection and sorting in Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling, supporting critical raw materials recovery and the circular economy.
