Elaine's primary research interests focus on gender equality and inclusion in the workplace, with an emphasis on women in management, gender role stereotypes, and gender quotas. Additionally, Elaine explores talent management in healthcare organizations, flexible working arrangements, and strategy development in NGOs, aiming to contribute to inclusive and effective organizational practices.
Elaine has over 20 years teaching experience across the management, international management, and strategic management disciplines at graduate and postgraduate levels.
Dr. Elaine Berkery is an Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management and Marketing at the University of Limerick. Her teaching expertise spans management, international management, and strategic management, particularly within the health, public, and tourism sectors.
Dr. Berkery delivers undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has extensive experience in programme development, including her tenure as Course Director of the MA in Business Management (February 2008 – September 2012). She is an alumnus of the International Teachers Programme (ITP) and has been nominated for the Large Group Teaching Excellence Award at the University of Limerick (2009, 2013).
Her research interests focus on diversity and inclusion in the workplace, examining areas such as gender in management, gender quotas, workplace flexibility, workforce diversity, and talent management in healthcare organizations. She frequently presents her research at international conferences and has published in prestigious academic journals, including the European Management Review, European Management Journal, Journal of Nursing Management, Social Politics, and Gender in Management: An International Journal.
Dr. Berkery is actively engaged in the academic community as a Senior Associate Fellow of the Academy of World Business, Marketing and Management Development and a member of the Irish Academy of Management and the British Academy of Management.
