Personal profile
Research Interests
I work on themes of International Relations, Gender and Feminist Politics, Critical Military Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies. Projects I'm currently working on involve, for example, conflict-related sexual violence, cultural militarisation and war commemoration in Scotland, public safety and gender inequality in Limerick City, and the negotiation of secrecy and accountability by organisations through public apologies.
Teaching Interests
I am particularly interested in teaching about war and peace, global inequalities, and gender and sexuality. As course director for the MA programme Peace and Development Studies, I teach the core Peacebuilding module (PO5006) and an elective on Gender and Politics (PO6032). I also teach a 4th year module Nationalism, Ethnicity and Conflict (PO4107). My teaching practice emphasises an understanding that the classroom is a space of everyday politics, which means that my modules tend to incorporate opportunities for reflection alongside traditional academic skills such as research, essay-writing and presentations.
Biography
Before coming to UL, I completed my PhD in Politics and International Relations and took up a one-year Teaching Fellowship at the University of Aberdeen. As Associate Professor of Peace and Development Studies, my work revolves around the fields of International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Critical Military Studies, and Feminist and Gender Studies.
