Biography

Professor Eoin Devereux 

With expertise in popular music and media, Professor Eoin Devereux  is a Cultural Sociologist, Creative Writer and Experimental Musician who teaches at the University of Limerick, Ireland. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Contemporary Culture (focused on fandom and discourse) in the Department of Art, Music and Culture at the University of Jyvasklya, Finland.

Eoin has taught extensively on the Sociology of Media. His publications in the area of popular music include work on The Fall, David Bowie, Morrissey, The Smiths, Joy Division and Damien Dempsey.  His work in the area of Media Sociology continues to focus on media constructions of poverty, homelessness and social welfare.  He has also published on community and community development.  

His recent publications include: 

  • Critical Explorations of Media and Inequality (2026) co-edited with Majka Ryan and Martin J. Power (Bloomsbury).
  • Always Different, Always The Same: Critical Essays on The Fall (2023)  co-edited with Martin J. Power, (Rowman and Littlefield International).

A life-long music fan, Eoin has written the Sleeve Notes for the re-issued versions of The Cranberries' albums 'Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We ', 'No Need To Argue' and 'To The Faithful Departed' for Universal Music London. He also wrote the sleeve notes for the 'Remembering Dolores' album released for Record Store Day. 

Eoin has collaborated with the renowned artist Gavin Friday on numerous projects including a monthly radio show for the U2 radio station U2X.

 In 2020, he featured as an interviewee in the Boomtown Rats documentary 'Citizens of Boomtown.'

In 2025,  RTE Culture published his essay on 50 Years of The Boomtown RatsRTE Brainstorm have featured his essays on the history of The Enniscorthy Carol (2024) and Fan Responses to David Bowie's passing (2026).  

Eoin's debut collection of poetry GARDENING LEAVE was published by 451 editions in November 2025.  He is also one half of the Post Punk Duo DOPAMINE FIX whose debut record 'Welcome To The Sharktank' was released in September 2025 by Blowtorch Records
