Biography

Dr Eoin Hinchy is a Lecturer in Digital Manufacturing and Automation at the University of Limerick, Course Director for Masters Apprentice and Professional Diploma in Equipment Systems Engineering. Dr Hinchy completed his undergraduate degree at University College Dublin, graduating with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. In December 2011, he was successfully awarded an Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme PhD Scholarship in partnership with Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon (LTTS), to study the diffusion braze repair process of nickel superalloy turbine components at the University of Limerick. After graduating his PhD in August 2016, he began a two year research engineer role with medical device company DePuy Synthes, part of Johnson and Johnson. In 2018, Dr Hinchy returned to the University of Limerick as a post-doctoral researcher with the Confirm Smart Manufacturing research centre. His research focuses on digital manufacturing and automation, which a focus on digital twin, robotics, and additive-based manufacturing technology. In late 2019, he was successfully awarded an SFI Industry Fellowship with Analog Devices International (ADI), developing a digital twin-based safety system for robotics with a view towards factory of the future. Dr Hinchy s research links continued with ADI post-Fellowship, where he currently leads an SFI-ADI co-fund project titled Human in the Loop: Detection and mapping of humans on the manufacturing floor .
