Biography

                       Professor Eoin Reeves of the Department of Economics is Director of the Privatisation and PPP Research Group.  His research interests lie primarily in the economics of infrastructure and the public-private mix in public service delivery.  This includes issues such as privatisation, liberalisation, and different forms of private sector participation in the delivery of public services.  Eoin has covered these issues in over 60 publications in edited books and international peer-reviewed journals.  These include analysis of the privatisation of state owned enterprises (Public Management Review, Annals of Public and Co-operative Economics, Telecommunications Policy, Economic and Industrial Democracy), contracting out public services (Economic and Social Review), PPP in Schools (Public Administration, Public Money and Management) and PPP in Water Services (Economic and Social Review).  He also co-authored a book titled Privatisation in Ireland Lessons from a European Economy (Palgrave MacMillan, 2011).  Eoin has secured a number of grants (IRC, Erasmus Mundus and UL Seed Funding) to fund different research projects and he has advised a number of local authorities, trade unions, and other public agencies (e.g. Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Parliamentary Committee on Communciations, Climate Action and Environment) on issues relevant to his research expertise.  Eoin served as Head of the Department of Economics (2016-2021), Assistant Dean, Research in the Kemmy Business School (1999-2003) and was the Director of the M.Sc. in Economic Analysis (2012-2016). He is co-editor of the Annals of Public and Co-operative Economics.  In 2013 (October-November) Eoin was a visiting research scholar at the Centre for Regulatory Studies, Monash University, Australia.  In 2014 (January July) he was a visiting research scholar at the Cornell Programme for Infrastructure Policy, Cornell University, USA. In 2022 he was appointed President of the International Scientific Commission on Public Services/Public Enterprise of CIRIEC (International Centre of Research and Information on the Public, Social and Cooperative Economy) is a non-governmental international scientific organization with over 750 members in 62 countries.
