Research Interests

Gráinne's research interests include: The measurement and examination of habitual activity behaviours (sleep, sedentary, standing, light, moderate and vigorous physical activity) in free-living environments; the accuracy of measurement methods in physical activity research; the examination of the individual and combined effects of various components of the physical activity continuum and indices of cardio-metabolic health. The determinants of health behaviours across the lifespan and the implementation of interventions to modify health behaviours.

Biography

Dr. Gráinne Hayes is an Assistant Professor in Exercise Physiology in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS), University of Limerick. She graduated with a BSc. in Sport and Exercise Sciences from the University of Limerick in 2013. Post graduation Gráinne joined the PESS Department as a Teaching Assistant until 2016 and as a Research Assistant and Project Manager until 2021. In 2021, Dr. Hayes was awarded a PhD  by the University of Limerick (Title: Physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviour and cardiometabolic health in children, adolescents and young adults). After completing her Doctoral studies, Gráinne joined the Technological University of the Shannon where she lectured across a range of modules relating to sport, exercise, health and wellbeing. From there Gráinne returned to the PESS Department at the University of Limerick where she was appointed to her current role as a lecturer in Exercise Physiology.
