Biography

Present Position: Lecturer, Department of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Limerick. My name is Irene Cassidy and I am a registered general nurse (RGN), registered midwife (RM) and registered nurse tutor. I undertook a Bachelor of Nursing (BNS) at University College Dublin, which also incorporated a nurse education qualification. I subsequently completed an MSc in Nursing with the University of Manchester and completed my PhD through the University of Limerick entitled 'Quality of Life and Living with Parkinson's: A mixed methods study.  My clinical experience spanned a range of clinical positions including medical, surgical, accident and emergency and renal nursing.   Areas of teaching, assessing and research interest include supporting people living with long-term conditions, Parkinson s and the experience of people living with long-term neurological conditions, palliative care, respiratory nursing, tracheostomy care, competency-based approaches to clinical assessment,  community nursing and pain management.
