Irish and Comparative Constitutional Law; International and Comparative Human Rights Law.
My research agenda lies at the intersection of human rights law and constitutional law, with a focus on the constitutional protection of social, economic, and environmental human rights.

Biography
Dr Jamie McLoughlin completed his undergraduate degree in law with 1st Class Honours at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin. He then obtained a master's degree in Law with Distinction from the University of Oxford before returning to UCD to undertake his PhD research. Dr McLoughlin submitted his PhD thesis in July 2024, successfully defending it in November 2024. His thesis engaged in a theoretical analysis of the conceptually necessary content of the right to life from a socio-ecological perspective, with particulat reference to the right to life in Irish constitutional law. Dr McLoughlin teaches and researches in areas across the field of public law. He has published articles in a number of leading Irish legal journals as well as chapters in edited books published with Hart and Palgrave MacMillan.
