Jay O'Shea

Jay O'Shea serves as a Research Assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences and as a Biobanking Technician with the Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre (LDCRC). Jay obtained a BSc in Neuroscience from University College Cork in 2014, conducting research on sex-based differences in glutamate-mediated nociceptive signalling in the spinal cord. They subsequently completed an MSc in Molecular Cell Biology in 2015, where their research focused on the role of primary cilia in the hippocampus and their involvement in stress-related psychiatric disorders.

In 2016, Jay joined Radisens Diagnostics as an Assay Development Scientist and Quality Control Advocate, contributing to the research and development of conjugated latex immunoassays for point-of-care in vitro diagnostic devices. In 2022, Jay transitioned to Atlantia Clinical Trials as Senior Laboratory Technician, where they oversaw the collection, processing, and biobanking of clinical trial samples in compliance with ICH-GCP, GLP, ISO 9001, and ISO 20387 standards.

In their current role at the LDCRC, Jay leverages extensive experience in clinical trials and biospecimen biobanking to support translational cancer research initiatives. Their expertise is underpinned by a strong understanding of GxP principles, ISO standards, and Lean Six Sigma risk-based methodologies, enabling the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of robust policies, procedures, and quality systems.
