- Sensors and actuators (thin/thick film technology and hybrids), sensor arrays for olfaction, DNA detection, etc., actuator arrays, sensor/actuator interface/driver solutions
- Software/firmware programming, instrumentation/test systems
- Collaborative applied industry research for manufacturing technology development in the SME sector, focusing on prototype development for validation and automation that requires novel materials or approaches
- Prototype design and build from concept to implementation (including design of electronics circuitry, schematic capture for PCBs, software/firmware and hardware)
- Design of software solutions for automated test systems and desktop applications
- Design of novel automation solutions for non-standard product test (including accelerated and life) and validation in industrial settings, involving system integration and software development
- Renewable energy technologies, with a particular focus on the design and fabrication of thin and thick film photovoltaics using alternative techniques and materials, and on energy-efficient sensor technologies
