Dr. O'Brien's main research interests examines the areas of Commercial Law; Credit and Security Law; Consumer Law and Contract Law.
Teaching Interests
Dr. O'Brien's interest in teaching law developed while she was completing her International Commercial Law Masters and her Doctor of Philosopy in Law at the University of Limerick.
Dr. O'Brien has gained much experience teaching in a broad range of law modules over the years, including Commercial law; Contract law; EU Law: Credit and Security Law; Land Law; Comparative Legal Systems; Media Law; Family Law and Sports and the Law.
Biography
Dr. O'Brien is a graduate of the University of Limerick (LLB 2013); (LLM in International Commercial Law 2015) and (Doctor of Philosophy in Law 2024). Dr. O'Brien's dissertation examined the 'Recent Reforms in Ireland's Personal Insolvency: A Panacea or a Challenge?'
Dr. O'Briens reseach has been published in highly respected journals and she has also presented conference papers in both Ireland and England the most prestigious being at the Society of Legal Scholars Annual Conference held in UCD in 2017. Dr. O'Brien is also a member of the Society of Legal Scholars.
In 2017 as part of her research, Dr. O'Brien completed and attained a City Colleges certificate and qualified as a Personal Insolvency Practitioner.
In September 2024 Dr. O'Brien commenced her teaching role joining the School of law at the University of Limerick as Teaching Assistant.
