Biography

Prof Liam Glynn is the Professor of General Practice at the School of Medicine, University of Limerick and a member of the Health Research Institute. He is the Co-Chair of the General Practice, Public Health and Primary Care Research group, Sláinte. He was awarded his M.Sc. degree in 2003 and his M.D. in 2007, both from National University of Ireland, Galway. He was appointed a HRB Cochrane fellow in 2007 and is lead author of Cochrane systematic reviews in hypertension as well as adherence to cardiovascular medication for BMJ Clinical Evidence. He was the first successful Irish applicant to the Brisbane Initiative, a two year International Primary Care Research Leadership programme based at Oxford University. Working on EU and HRB funded projects on connected health and a HRB funded research programme in resistant hypertension, he has built up and continues to lead multi-disciplinary research teams involving general practitioners, nurses, psychologists and engineers. His primary research interests are in preventive medicine with a focus on physical activity, chronic kidney disease and diabetes and on bringing technological solutions to healthcare through connected health and particularly mhealth solutions.  Professor Glynn is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He has over 250 publications and 7 book chapters and over six thousand citations. He is a referee for several international medical and medical education journals and a member of the Editorial Board of Forum, the Journal of the Irish College of General Practitioners.
