Research Interests

·  In telecommunication networks: Wireless network and protocol infrastructural innovations for next generation networks (NGNs), the Ubiquitous Consumer Wireless World (UCWW), Cognitive Networks, software define radio (SDR), Internet of Things (IoT); mobile cloud communications and service; and; Internet tomography. ·  In RF microwave and millimeterwave circuits and systems: behavioural modelling of complex wireless telecommunication systems and subsystems especially linearization and; energy efficiency issues in wireless multimode, multiband, multicarrier broadband nonlinear RF power amplifiers for LTEa and; other advanced wireless communications interfacces.  ·  He also has research interests in mobile wireless eLearning technology and systems.

Biography

Dr. Máirtín Ó'Droma, BE 1973, PhD 1978 (both from National University of Ireland University College Dublin, NUI-UCD), C.Eng., FIET, SMIEEE (Life Senior Member), Senior Lecturer Emeritus, University of Limerick (UL), Ireland. Recent positions and activities include Senior Lecturer UL,1984-2016; and; Emeritus since; Director, Telecommunications Research Centre, UL 1990-2016; and University of Limerick Governing Authority Member, 2011-2016, Ireland. President of the Irish Committee of Official Commission Members of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), 2008-date. Royal Irish Academy's Engineering and Computer Science Committee Member, 2014-2022 (RIA-ECS). IEEE (MTT) Subject Matter Expert; ITU-T Invited Expert; Founding Partner and Steering Committee Member of the European Unions TARGET Network of Excellence Top Amplifier Research Groups in a European Team, and ANWIRE 'Academic Network for Wireless Internet Research in Europe (6th and 5th EU Rand;D Framework Programmes resp.). Served as Ireland's delegate to several European Science Foundation (ESF) Cooperation in the field of Science and Technology (COST) Research Actions; examples for the period since 2004 include: Algorithms, Architectures and platforms for enhanced living environments (AAPELE (IC1303; 2013-17); others include: RF/microwave communication subsystems for emerging wireless technologies, RFCSET (IC0803); Wireless networking for moving objects, WiNeMO (IC0906); Traffic and QoS management in wireless multimedia networks (COST 290); and Modeling and simulation tools for research in emerging multi-service telecommunications (COST 285). His research interests are in telecommunications engineering; and include complex microwave and millimeter wave wireless telecommunication systems, future wireless network architectures and protocols, and related research covering such areas as: [A] Behavioral modeling, linearization and; efficiency techniques in multimode, multiband, multicarrier broadband nonlinear RF power amplifiers; complex wireless telecommunication systems simulation; Originator of the Bessel-Fourier and; Modified Saleh PA Behavioural Models [B] Wireless network and protocol infrastructural innovations for next generation wireless networks (wNGN), including: Ubiquitous Consumer Wireless World (UCWW; originator); Wireless Billboard Channels (WBC); Third Party Authentication, Authorisation and Accounting (3P-AAA); Consumer-oriented Incoming Caller Connection services (ICC); Consumer Identity Module (CIM) design; and cognitive networks; and [C] Innovations for practical telecommunication applications, e.g., IOT; smart antennas; distributed mLearning architectures; Internet tomography. Served as director and manager for a number of telecom research companies and social interest groups.
