Biography

Mairead is an CORU registered Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at the School of Allied Health, University of Limerick, Ireland. She was awarded a BSc (Curr.Occ Ther) and an MSc from Trinity College, Dublin and was awarded a PhD from the University of Limerick in January 2023. She completed her PhD on the transition to retirement experience of women academics under the supervision of Professor Judi Pettigrew and Professor Rose Galvin, at the School of Allied Health, University of Limerick, Ireland. Prior to holding an Associate Professor post in Occupational Therapy, she worked as a university based Practice Education Co-ordinator at the University of Limerick, for over a decade until 2023,  and as university based Regional Placement Facilitator for four years from 2006. Prior to entering academia, she worked in acute and rehabilitation hospital and community occupational therapy services in Ireland and the UK. 

Her research interests lie in understanding the transition to retirement process of older workers using qualitative approaches. She also  researches student inteprofessional learning in academic and practice education settings.
