Research Interests

Mairead's research activity is grounded in nursing practice and education, as a multifaceted theme this includes nursing care, simulation-based education and implementation science. Mairead has a strong academic portfolio of peer-reviewed publications and regulary disseminates at national and international conferences. Most recently her doctoral work is focused on the implementation of reasonable adjustments in hospitals for people with intellectual disability. Mairead has an extablished record of success as a co-applicant on various funding awards from The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Eduction; National Digital Learning Respository; Health Service Executive/Office of the Nursig and Midwifery Service Director; Health Implementation Science and Technology @UL and PPI @UL. Mairead is currently a member of the Department's Implementation Science Reseach Focus Group and the Intellectual Disability Reseach Focus Group.

Biography

Mairead is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick. She is a graduate of the University of Limerick (MSc 2014; BSc 2005), University of Galway (PGDip Clinical Education 2011) and a Registered General Nurse (St Vincent s University Hospital Dublin 1999) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Mairead joined the University of Limerick in 2006 and has significant experience in nursing education, particularly in clinical skills pedagogies and simulation-based education, she is a founding member of the national group Clinical Skills Network Ireland. Prior to UL, Mairead worked with the Health Service Executive as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a background in critical care, respiratory and cardiac nursing. In 2023, Mairead received the UL Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. She currently teaches across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supervises student's MSc studies.
