Biography
Mairead is an Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick. She is a graduate of the University of Limerick, University of Galway, and is a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Mairead lectures across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and is a recipient of the UL Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has significant experience in nursing education, particularly in clinical skills pedagogies and simulation-based education and is a founding member of the national group Clinical Skills Network Ireland. Prior to her appointment at UL, Mairead worked with the Health Service Executive as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a background in critical care, respiratory and cardiac nursing.
Mairead is affiliated with the Health Research Institute (HRI), the Centre for Implementation Research at UL (CIRcUL), Clinical Skills Network Ireland (CSNI), and the Respiratory Nurses Association of Ireland. In 2025, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as a Nurse Leader (Sigma’s Omega Epsilon At-Large Chapter). Mairead’s research is practice-informed and focuses on health equity, reasonable adjustments in healthcare, simulation-based education, and implementation science. Mairead has published widely and disseminates her work at national and international conferences. She has a successful record as a co-applicant on competitive funding awards from bodies such as: The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education; National Digital Learning Repository; Health Service Executive/Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Service Director; Health Implementation Science and Technology @UL and PPI @UL. Mairead is currently undertaking doctoral studies at the School of Nursing and Midwifery and is an active member of the Implementation Science Research Focus Group and the Intellectual Disability Research Focus Group.
