Mairead Moloney is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Education and Health Sciences, University of Limerick. She is a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), and a graduate of both the University of Limerick and the University of Galway. Prior to joining academia, she worked within the Health Service Executive as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and has extensive clinical experience across critical care, respiratory, and cardiac nursing.
Mairead lectures across undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes and has a particular interest in clinical skills pedagogy and simulation-based education. She is a founding member and former National Secretary of Clinical Skills Network Ireland, a professional network that promotes excellence and innovation in clinical skills teaching. In recognition of her commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, Mairead received the University of Limerick Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Mairead’s research interests include implementation science, health equity, intellectual disability, and the implementation of reasonable adjustments in healthcare settings. She is currently undertaking doctoral studies at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Limerick, where her research focuses on understanding how evidence-based interventions can be effectively implemented within complex healthcare systems to improve access, quality, safety, and outcomes for people who experience health inequities. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, regularly disseminates her work at national and international conferences, and has contributed as co-applicant on successful competitive research and educational funding applications.
Mairead is affiliated with the Health Research Institute (HRI), the Centre for Implementation Research at UL (CIRcUL), Clinical Skills Network Ireland (CSNI), and the Respiratory Nurses Association of Ireland. In 2025, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Omega Epsilon At-Large Chapter) in recognition of her leadership and contribution to nursing. In 2026, she was awarded second place in the Alice Coffey Student Implementation Research Prize in recognition of her contribution to Implementation Science Research.
