Biography
Dr Majka Ryan is an Assistant Professor of Work and Employment and Director of the Professional Diploma in Sustainable work at the Department of Work and Employment Studies, Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick.
Majka is a former Irish Research Council funded research scholar. Her Ph.D. research examined the central role of discretion in the decision‑making practices of street‑level bureaucrats, uncovering how the ambiguities of policy, the organisational tensions and divergent practices shape the provision of welfare services.
Majka’s research is interdisciplinary and action-oriented, consistently focusing on the intersections of work and social justice, particularly in the areas of intersectional equality. At its core, her research investigates how overlapping structures of inequality, such as gender, race, ethnicity, class, and immigration status, shape individuals’ lived experiences, opportunities, and outcomes and how institutions, policies, and organisational practices may reinforce or mitigate these inequalities.
