Research Interests

Mark Lyons research interests mainly align with field based research whereby the findings have implications in terms of the preparation, training or monitoring of athletes. He is currently exploring a number of topics related to strength training, functional movement screening, training load monitoring and links to pain, injury and illness. Mark is also involved in collaborative research examining the effects of resistance training on mental health outcomes. Mark is a reviewer for a number of national and international journals including: Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research American Journal of Human Biology European Journal of Sport Science Journal of Sports Medicine Annals of Human Biology

Teaching Interests

Mark currently teaches on the BSc Sport and Exercise Science and MSc in Sports Performance programmes, where his interests are broadly based in the areas of Strength and Conditioning, Coaching Science and Sports Performance. Biography

Dr. Mark Lyons joined the Physical Education and Sport Sciences Department in September 2011. His PhD explored the effects of moderate and high-intensity exercise on sports-related performance. An applied practitioner for over 20 years, Mark now teaches on the BSc Sport and Exercise Science and MSc in Sports Performance programmes, where his interests are broadly based in the areas of Strength and Conditioning and Sports Performance. Previously, Mark worked as a senior lecturer on undergraduate and post-graduate programmes at Newman University College, Birmingham, UK.
