Research Interests

Matrikines are one group of cosmetic bioactive peptides. They are fragments from matrix macromolecules, like damaged connective tissue proteins that naturally occur. They stimulate tissue repair activity and can induce the reconstitution of connective tissue in low concentrations, through binding to connective tissue cell surface receptors. For cosmetic applications, these sequences are produced chemically, via recombinant technology (GMOs) or as raw collagen hydrolysates. Currently, as far as we know, there is no research that has been conducted where plant-based materials have been screened and tested for this bioactivity.
Therefore, this research focuses on identifying these peptides currently used in cosmetics from plant materials.
