Personal profile

Biography

Dr. Pedram Vousoughi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Limerick, specializing in life cycle assessment (LCA), bioeconomy strategies, and sustainable resource management. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tabriz (2023), where his research focused on spatiotemporal biomonitoring of urban particulate matter to identify pollution sources and develop mitigation strategies.

Dr. Vousoughi integrates chemical engineering principles with environmental and sustainability sciences, focusing on optimizing biomass conversion processes, implementing circular economy models, and assessing the environmental impact of bioeconomy-driven policies. In addition to postdoctoral research, he has contributed to STEM education through tutoring and teaching assistance at the University of Limerick, mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in process technology, process design, and chemistry.

With a strong interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Vousoughi collaborates with industry leaders, policymakers, and academic institutions to develop practical solutions for pressing environmental and industrial challenges. His work aims to bridge the gap between scientific research, policy development, and real-world applications, supporting a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.

Research Interests

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Sustainability: Applying LCA methodologies to assess and minimize the environmental impact of bioeconomy-driven policies, circular economy integration, and sustainable resource management.
  • Sustainable Biomass and Bioenergy Systems: Assessing the potential of bio-based feedstocks, biorefineries, and anaerobic digestion to optimize bioenergy production, improve feedstock utilization, and support net-zero emission goals.
  • Environmental Policy and Decision Support Systems: Developing science-based decision frameworks to assist policymakers in balancing economic growth with environmental protection, particularly in the context of climate adaptation and resilience strategies.
  • Air Quality and Pollution Control: Investigating the spatiotemporal distribution, chemical composition, and source apportionment of urban particulate matter using receptor modeling techniques to inform effective air pollution mitigation strategies.
  • Climate Change Mitigation and Carbon Footprint Reduction: Evaluating strategies for decarbonization, carbon capture and storage (CCS), bio-based carbon sequestration, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in industrial and agricultural sectors.
  • Urban Sustainability and Smart Cities: Applying data-driven approaches, environmental monitoring, and AI-based models to enhance sustainable urban planning, waste management, and green infrastructure development.
