Biography
Associate Professor Hayes graduated from the UCD School of Medicine in 2003, and the Mid-West Training Scheme in General Practice in 2009.His qualifications include:- MD (Res.), Research Doctorate, 2019andnbsp;(NUIG)- Masters in Medical Education, MMedSc, 2016 (University of Dundee, Scotland)- Membership of Royal College of Physicians, MRCPI, 2011 (Royal College of Physicians Ireland)- Membership of Irish College of General Practitioners and Certificate of Satisfactory Completion of Specialist Training in General Practice (CSST), and; MICGP, 2009 (Irish College of General Practitioners)- Degree in Medicine, MB,BAO,Bch., 2003andnbsp;(University College Dublin)- Degree in Medical Science, BMedSci. (Pathology) 2003andnbsp;(University College Dublin)- Associate Diploma in the Teaching of Speech and; Drama, 1996, Trinity College London (UK)- Certificate in Theatre and Performance, 1995, Trinity College London (UK)
Before being appointed Senior Lecturer in UL in 2019, Associate Professor Hayes worked as a Lecturer in Primary Care in NUI Galway between 2011-2018. In NUI Galway, Peter taught on the undergraduate medical curriculum, as module lead for the general practice and professionalism modules andandnbsp;as a Lecturer on the Health Professions Education Masters Program - looking specifically at curricular design. He has also worked clinically as a General Practitioner since 2009.
Peter has a passion for research that will positively impact on the lives of patients. His doctoral thesis and much of his recent work has had a strong focus on hypertension, medication adherence and cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, he is active in medical education research, particularly in the area of using drama as a way of discussing emotional honesty with medical students and health professions preparedness for the workplace via universityandnbsp;courses.
