Dr Stefano Angeleri joined the UL School of Law as a Lecturer / Assistant Professor in 2025.
Dr. Stefano Angeleri previously held a prestigious EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) postdoctoral fellowship at Queen’s University Belfast and Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá (2021–2024). He earned his PhD in Law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the University of Galway (2019), where he also conducted research and lectured as a postdoctoral fellow until 2021. Currently, he serves as the coordinator for the Irish/UK section of the Academic Network on the European Social Charter and Social Rights (ANESC/RACSE) and, since 2023, is a visiting scientist at the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Angeleri, who has been admitted to the bar in Italy since 2013, has led and collaborated on numerous research and training projects with organizations such as the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRANET), the International Organization for Migration, the Pan-American Health Organization, the Global Campus of Human Rights, and the Italian NGO Naga.
Dr. Angeleri’s work focuses on health, migration, and social rights, examining the complexities and inconsistencies of human rights law and rights-based approaches through both doctrinal and sociolegal research. His scholarship bridges academic inquiry with intersectoral initiatives, integrating interdisciplinary perspectives and amplifying the voices of diverse actors and stakeholders.
Stefano is author of Irregular Migrants and the Right to Health (Cambridge University Press 2022), Derecho a la atención en salud para las personas migrantes en situación irregular en Colombia: entre estándares normativos y barreras prácticas (Dejusticia 2024), and editor of The European Social Charter. A Commentary (Brill 2022-). He has published in peer-reviewed journals such as the European Journal of Migration and Law, International Journal of Human Rights, Yale Journal of International Law, Swiss Review of International and European Law, Medical Law Review, and Health and Human Rights Journal. He has also authored book chapters, blogs, and reports in English, Spanish, and Italian.
At UL, he currently lectures in the field of human rights and international law. He welcomes PhD proposals aligned with his areas of interest, including human mobility and human rights, socioeconomic rights and marginalization, and human rights education.
