Biography
Professor Thomas (Tom) Newe works in the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at The University of Limerick where he has been a faculty member since 1994 and head of department since Jan 2025. Tom is a Principle and Funded Investigator in a number of national Research Centres. He is a board member of Cyber Ireland, an initiative which brings together Industry, Academia and Government to represent the needs of the Cyber Security Ecosystem in Ireland, and a founding member of CyberSkills, a HEA-HCI Pillar 3 initiative which aims to address the global shortage of cybersecurity professionals. He holds a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering, a Masters in Engineering in Security Protocol Design and a PhD in Formal Logics for Security Protocol Verification. His research interest includes many topics under the general areas of cyber security for Data, Networks, OT and Smart Collaborative Robotics. He has published in excess of 190 journal and conference papers and graduated many PhD students in these areas.
