Research Interests

My research interests lie primarily in the area of land law (especially adverse possession, the law on landlord and tenant and succession law), the law of trusts, conveyancing law and matrimonial property law.

Teaching Interests

I teach modules in land law, equity and trusts and comparative property law.                      

Biography

Dr Una Woods graduated with a BCL from University College Cork and was awarded an LLM in Human Rights and Discrimination Law by Queens University Belfast. She qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and was awarded the Findlater Scholarship by the Law Society of Ireland. She joined the School of Law, University of Limerick in September 1999. In November 2006 she was appointed by the Minister for Justice as a member of the Property Registration Authority (which previously managed the Irish Land Registry and the Registry of Deeds) and, in November 2010, she was re-appointed for another 4 year term. In 2014, she completed her doctorate with Queens University Belfast on The Irish Law on Adverse Possession - The Case for a Qualified Veto System. She has acted as a consultant to the Irish Law Reform Commission on the law in relation to cohabitants. Her publications focus mainly on land law and conveyancing law. She co-authored Irish Conveyancing Law (4th edition) with JCW Wylie. This book was awarded the 2020 Irish Book Award by the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and it has been extensively cited by the Superior Courts. She has acted as an external examiner for NUI, Galway, DCU, UCD and UCC.
