5G SECURITY IN SMART MANUFACTURING 4.0

Research output: Contribution to conferencePosterpeer-review

Abstract

5G introduces significant innovation by integrating different types of technologies and enabling smart manufacturing industries with flexible implementations, efficient and scalable systems. Despite of the wide-ranging benefits, the risks and threats associated to 5G networks are yet to be fully understood. The 3GPP standards designed to standardize 5G are limited in terms of use-case implementations, tests and trial beds. The implementation also involves security-based issues related to availability, authentication and confidentiality in cases of single/multiple contractors involved but once the threat actors move from unknown-to-known the impact may relatively reduce. Besides this, the new trust and service delivery models may assist in 5G Industrial implementations since this is the only technology enabling and fulfilling the agile smart manufacturing needs with cost benefits.
