Abstract
The development and application of computational models to gain an insight into the operation of rotary cement kilns are described. The computational models also provide important and useful clues for optimizing and fine-tuning the klins to reduce energy consumption. CFD simulations help to understand flame characteristics and three-dimensional flow, temperature and composition distribution with the klin. The relative flow rates of swirl air, axial air and coal-carrying air can be varied to realize desired flame characteristics.
