Abstract

This paper compares two production inventory control policies: Hybrid Push/Pull and CONWIP/Pull. In Hybrid Push/Pull different stages along a production line are controlled by a push or pull policy. In CONWIP/Pull, as well as an overall work-in-progress (WIP) cap on inventory, kanbans are used to control WIP at individual stages. This paper shows the equivalence of a previously presented model of Hybrid Push/Pull systems and CONWIP/Pull. The paper also re-evaluates this Hybrid Push/Pull model under optimal safety stock and inventory levels.
