Abstract
A new equalization target for the high-density magnetic recording channel is proposed based on the PR1 partial response combined with decision feedback. A detector for the new target is developed and shown to allow practical implementation. The performance of the detector is assessed through analysis and simulation. It is shown that the detector is suitable for channel recording densities of 3 bits per P WHO.
