    Abstract

The development of a novel coating method for deposition of an apatite-mullite glass-ceramic on titanium alloy of Ti6Al4V, was described. Glasses based on SiO2-P2O5-Al2O 3-CaO- CaF2 and with high fluorine content were selected for deposition on Ti-6Al-4V metal substrates by a sedimentation method. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis exhibited that the coating/substrate interface was non-planar, which indicated strong reaction between alloy and glass-ceramic. The results show that the coating method may be used for application of biocompatible coatings to titanium alloy substrates.
