Abstract

This paper describes a prototype integration of a new Simulation Engine (SE) with the Core Manufacturing Simulation Data (CMSD). This work is part of an FP7 project titled "Decision support in Real-time for Efficient Agile Manufacturing" (DREAM) which started in October of 2012. One of the main scopes of DREAM is to engineer a semantic free open simulation application development platform to support the wide adoption of simulation based applications by European manufacturing companies. For this reason, a new Discrete Event Simulation (DES) tool is being developed to be used as the core SE of the platform. This software is open-source and focuses in the modeling of manufacturing objects. To address the problem of time consuming pre-coding for DES projects, a knowledge extraction tool is currently being developed. The knowledge extraction tool will read data from several resources of an organisation and output it in a format that is applicable to simulation purposes. The format that we adopted follows the CMSD standard in order to describe simulation related data. We present a first prototype of this approach and we draw conclusions about the future steps of our project.
