Abstract
The generation rate of aerodynamic entropy in a boundary layer with high free stream turbulence is discussed. An increase in the free-stream turbulence level from 0.8% to 5.0% resulted in almost a 45% increase in suction surface boundary layer loss for a comparable Reynolds number. It is found that laminar and transitional losses were most influenced by the freestream turbulence. As the perturbed laminar suction surface boundary layer exhibits significant turbulent characteristics, it is termed a hybrid boundary layer.
