Abstract
In this chapter, we present a novel and integrated system designed for advanced environmental management through the combined use of IoT (Internet of Things) stations and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based model for satellite image processing. The escalating concerns surrounding environmental degradation necessitate innovative approaches to monitor and mitigate environmental factors effectively. The proposed system leverages IoT stations equipped with an array of sensors to collect real-time data on various environmental parameters, such as air quality, temperature, humidity, and more. Simultaneously, we harness the power of satellite imagery, including data from Landsat and MODIS, to enhance the spatial coverage and precision of environmental monitoring. The integration of IoT stations and satellite images enables us to capture a comprehensive and dynamic understanding of environmental conditions, enabling timely and informed decision-making for sustainable environmental management. Through the proposed system, environmental authorities and stakeholders can access a centralized cloud-based platform that processes and analyzes the collected data. This platform not only provides valuable insights but also facilitates real-time alerts and notifications to address potential environmental hazards promptly. This research presents the three-layered architecture of the cloud-based system, detailing the functionalities of each layer. The data layer efficiently collects and synchronizes information from IoT stations and satellite images. The cloud layer processes, stores, and disseminates the data, while the application layer offers user-friendly interfaces for data access, system management, and public engagement. The proposed IoT and satellite-based system represents a cutting-edge approach to environmental management, fostering sustainability and resilience in the face of growing environmental challenges. The seamless integration of ground-based IoT stations with satellite imagery unlocks new possibilities for precise and holistic environmental monitoring, ushering in a new era of environmental awareness and action.
