Abstract

In regenerative medicine, techniques are developed to replace, restore, and repair diseased or damaged organs and tissues. This includes stem cell differentiation methods, engineering tissues, and 3D bio-printing. Among these drug delivery systems play a significant role in regenerative medicine by selecting the materials for the drug formulation, routes of administration, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. In this chapter, we discuss various roles of drug delivery systems in regenerative medicine as well as how artificial intelligence (AI) has contributed to designing such systems by predicting ideal particle size drug delivery vehicles, optimizing controlled release through different formulations, and controlled drug delivery through ultrasound waves. Further, we have discussed how AI is currently being used in regenerative medicine by predicting the functionality of stem cells, tissue characteristics, and the risk associated with stem cell transplantations.
