Abstract

The contribution made by engineering and science to the practice of modern medicine has increased rapidly over the last few years and current predictions suggest that its impact over the next decade will be even more significant. In particular, the rapidly evolving discipline of Biomedical Engineering plays a crucial role in the advancement of these technologies. In Ireland, both North and South, Health Technology industries are experiencing rapid growth. An identified weakness constraining even more rapid growth is the dearth of human resources. The course described in this short paper aims at helping to correct this deficiency by using Centres of Excellence on the island to provide postgraduate training in the discipline.
