N2 - The comparative analysis of the architectural and functional design of e-learning delivery platforms and applications with a view of assessing how the functionality meet with the needs of a Virtual University Information System (VUIS) is discussed. The reference model used for the analysis is the Layer 3 of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Learning Technology Standards Committee's (LTSC) P1484.1/D9. The LTSA Layer 3 specifies the components within the architecture that identify the main interfaces that should be considered for learning systems. These standards allow learning content to be easily accessable and reused in various formats and enable the interoperability of learning technologies from different vendors.
